Group fitness classes at the Health & Wellness Center provide a friendly and welcoming environment in which certified instructors promote safety, wellness, and goal achievement.

Classes Offered

  • Zumba™

    Dance to great music (Latin and international rhythms), with great people, and burn a ton of calories without even realizing it. Join us for this fun, total body workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. Zumba is for everyone, and no, you don’t have to know how to dance!

  • Aqua Zumba™

    Aqua Zumba blends traditional shallow-water aerobics moves with Zumba fitness. This class combines cardio conditioning, muscular endurance, and muscle toning. Aqua Zumba choreography will leave you feeling energized and refreshed! The buoyancy of the water helps reduce the pressure on joints—a great option for those with arthritis or muscle pain! For all fitness levels!

  • Step & Strength

    This class encompasses weighted and body-weight exercises to gain muscle mass, while achieving cardiovascular endurance through the utilization of a step bench and free weights. This class targets all muscle groups by engaging in dynamic and isometric movements. The workouts will be done with high intensity and high energy. It is designed to promote strength, cardiovascular endurance, lean muscle growth, and excess fat loss. All levels of participants are welcome.

  • Boxing

    A martial arts style cardio workout that will help you improve endurance and coordination. Learn proper techniques for punches and kicks in this class. This workout will challenge your stamina and coordination – and get your heart racing – as we layer moves together into boxing combos. All levels welcome; gloves are provided or you can bring your own!

  • Cardio Combo

    Cardio Combo is a dance-based cardio class designed to get you moving to a variety of songs. In this class you will sweat out your stress with fun moves. You’ll use dance moves to strengthen and sculpt your body all while having lots of fun! No dance experience necessary!

  • Yoga

    Yoga is a unique sequence of postures aimed at strengthening the mind-body connection. Its hallmark is the emphasis on intuition over tradition. This class will allow you to stretch and strengthen every part of your body and mind. This method encourages vitality, strength and healing as we work with the body as a whole. You don't need any previous experience or knowledge of yoga.

  • Dance Aerobics

    This chair workout targets abdominals, triceps, glutes & legs, increasing strength and flexibility while bringing confidence, awareness, and balance to your body.

  • Pound

    This full-body workout combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Using Ripstix®, lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising, POUND transforms drumming into an incredibly effective way of working out.

You can still enjoy our group fitness classes without being a member of the facility. Group fitness classes are available for $5 per class and can be purchased at our Member Services Desk.

Swimming is a life skill, great exercise, and a challenging sport. The AAMU Student Health & Wellness Center offers group and private swim lessons for ages 3 and up.

Classes are offered every month, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each session includes six 45-minute sessions.

Spring 2019 Schedule

Preschool (3-5yrs): 4:00pm – 4:45pm
School Age (6-12yrs): 5:00pm – 5:45pm
Adults (13+): 6:00pm – 6:45pm

Session 1: January 8—24
Session 2: February 5—21
Session 3: March 5—21
Session 4: April 2—18
